For many people, losing weight seems like a constant uphill battle.  Sometimes, despite our best efforts, the weight just won’t come off.  A lollipop may sound like the last thing a dieter needs, but you might be surprised to find out how many people swear by them these days.

Of course you can’t lose weight with your average lollipop.  But Power Pops are all the rage among people who want to shed those extra pounds.  They contain Hoodia, a popular herb that has been heralded for helping countless people lose weight.

What is Hoodia?hoodia lollipops

Hoodia is a plant that is related to the cactus.  Found primarily in Africa, Hoodia has been used by bushmen for many years to suppress appetite.  But it wasn’t until recently that Hoodia began to be used in commercial diet supplements.

Many celebrities have sung Hoodia’s praises.  It has become one of the most popular herbs for weight loss.  It is not a stimulant, so it doesn’t make users jittery.  It simply tricks their brain into thinking that they are full.

It can take up to two weeks for a person to get the full benefits of Hoodia.  Optimal dosages also vary from person to person.  It can be used from one to three times per day.

How Do I Use Power Pops?

The suggested usage of Power Pops consists of having one with a glass of water 30 minutes before each meal every day.  The water is necessary to help the ingredients of the Power Pop break down in your system.  The Hoodia suppresses your appetite, allowing you to feel full without eating as much.

Keeping Your Mind and Body Healthy

When our bodies are healthy, our minds are usually healthy as well.  Being in good health gives us more energy and a better attitude.

But it is important not to take these gifts for granted.  We must take steps to maintain our physical and mental health.  If one is suffering, the other will often follow.

There are lots of things we can do to keep our minds and bodies healthy.  Here are a few to consider:

* Work out regularly.  Obviously this is good for our bodies, but it is also good for our minds.  Intense physical exercise helps relieve stress, and it can boost our self-esteem.  Try to participate in some substantial physical activity each day, and work out at least three times a week.

* Eat a nutritious diet.  Healthy foods give us the nutrients our bodies need to fight off disease and maintain a healthy weight.  They also give us the energy we need to exercise and participate in everyday activities.

* Get plenty of rest.  If we’re not getting enough sleep at night, we have less energy during the day.  Our mental health also suffers.  Getting in our 8 hours every night is more important than most of us realize.

* Keep tabs on your health.  Find a doctor that you like and respect, and go to her for annual checkups.  Some health problems can sneak up on you, but regular physicals can facilitate early detection and make treatment easier and more effective.

* Kick bad habits.  Smoking, drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, and overeating can all adversely affect our physical health.  By putting these habits to rest, we can feel better both physically and mentally.

* Meditate.  If your mind is cluttered or you have a negative outlook, meditation can help.  It can increase your mental clarity and help you see things in a more positive light.

* Participate in activities you enjoy.  Staying healthy doesn’t have to be dull and boring.  Finding a sport or other physical activity that you look forward to participating in will allow you to have fun while doing something that is good for your body.  And, of course, having fun is great for your mental state.

Staying healthy requires some effort, but it makes our lives longer and more enjoyable.  This applies not only to our bodies, but also to our minds.  Taking the time to keep our minds and bodies in good shape allows us to be happier and more productive, and to get more out of life.

Fitting a Workout into Your Daily Schedule

In today’s busy world, it is hard to find time to do all of the things we need and want to do.  Most of us have precious little free time on our hands, and what free time we do have we probably want to spend relaxing.  This often results in things like workouts being pushed to the side.

What many a busy person fails to realize is that working out is worthwhile in more ways than one.  It gets us in better shape, but that’s not all.  It also increases our energy levels, allowing us to be more productive.  It reduces stress, giving us a better attitude.  And it reduces our risk for numerous health problems.  When you look at all these benefits, it’s easy to see why making time for a daily workout is so important.  Here are some ways you can fit in a workout:

* Get up earlier and start your day with a workout.  You don’t have to seriously disrupt your sleep pattern.  Just 20 or 30 minutes each day, or an hour three or four times a week, is enough of a workout to make a noticeable difference. While it may be hard to give up a little sleep, you might find that exercise helps you sleep better so your overall sleep quality will improve, making it easier to go to bed earlier and wake up refreshed.

* Go for a walk or jog during your breaks at work.  You won’t work up a sweat like you would at a regular workout, but it’s a start.

* Hit a nearby gym during your lunch hour.  You can get in a half hour workout and still have a half hour to eat.

* Are you unable to fit in a workout because of the kids?  Sign up for a Mommy and Me class.  If that doesn’t work for you, enlist the help of a friend in the same situation.  Have her help you with your kids while you work out, and do the same for her.

* Substitute a workout for your daily TV time.  Will your life really be less complete if you miss that certain show?  If you truly can’t bear to miss it, work out while you watch.

* Find a set of workout videos that you enjoy.  Keep them in a place where you will see them often, and make it a point to work out whenever you have some free time.  This works well if you have a highly unpredictable schedule.  Just remember to shoot for at least three good workouts each week for maximum benefit.

Finding time for a workout sometimes seems like an impossible task, but it’s not.  If you can set aside 30 minutes to an hour each day, you can get in enough physical activity to make a noticeable difference.  And once you see how much better you feel with regular workouts, you’ll be more motivated to fit them into your schedule.

What Are Probiotics?

Some view bacteria is a negative thing.  It brings to mind thoughts of infections and food poisoning.  It may be hard to fathom that bacteria can often be a very good thing. In fact none of us would be alive without bacteria!

In reality, there are numerous types of bacteria that are beneficial to humans.  Trillions of bacteria live in the average human body, not because we are in bad health, but because they belong there.  They aid in a variety of biological functions.  They help us digest food, fight off harmful bacteria, and keep our immune systems working properly.

Probiotics are live bacteria that are included in food and supplements.  These so-called “friendly bacteria” are used in a variety of applications in alternative medicine.  But the mainstream medical community has also begun to recognize the benefits of probiotics, and they have garnered a great deal of attention from food companies and the media.

What Can Probiotics Be Used For?

Probiotics have been studied for use in a number of ways.  One of the areas where they have been found to be of the most assistance is in the digestive tract.  Doctors have used them to treat diarrhea, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and intestinal infections.  But according to many experts, this is only the tip of the iceberg.

Studies have also shown promise in treating and preventing urinary and genital tract infections in women with probiotics, and in managing eczema in children.  It is also believed that probiotics may have the potential to boost the immune system.  And studies have been conducted regarding the potential to reduce the recurrence of bladder cancer with probiotics.

Are Probiotics Risky?

So far studies have shown probiotics to be very safe, but more studies are needed to discover all potential effects, both good and bad.

In most cases, the biggest side effect reported by those using probiotics is digestive difficulties.  But it is not impossible for probiotics to cause an infection on their own.  They could also adversely affect the immune system if not taken properly.  It is crucial to follow dosing instructions carefully if you take probiotics.

For many years, good bacteria has been known to exist in our bodies.  The benefits of probiotics were discovered many years ago, but they have only recently gained widespread attention and acceptance.  They are have become more accessible in recent years, popping up in a variety of food products from yogurt to baby formula.  Adding probiotics to your diet is easy, and it has the potential to greatly improve your health.

Five Reasons to Drink Raw Milk

If you are looking for a healthier alternative to pasteurized milk, here are five reasons to have raw milk instead:

1.  Raw milk is rich in proteins, enzymes, and vitamins.  Included in raw milk is bacteria that is not only beneficial, but which acts as an anti-viral agent as well.  In addition, the high level of calcium in raw milk allows for the strengthening of bones as well as increased growth levels.

A recent study produced these findings:  “Raw milk contains two and a half times more IgG enzyme that pasteurized milk.”  Why is this important?  It can prevent diarrhea in infants.

2.  Raw milk’s counterpart, pasteurized milk, is said to contain lower amounts of all of the essential amino acids, nutrients, and vitamins that are necessary in maintaining overall health.  Moreover, the “good” bacteria in raw milk is destroyed by the pasteurization and leaves the body more defenseless against other bacteria that can be harmful.  This is why pasteurized milk deteriorates while raw milk simply turns sour.

Research also indicates that there is approximately 33% more natural vitamin C in raw milk than in pasteurized milk.  Vitamins A, B, and C in combination with enzymes are all destroyed in the pasteurization process and thereby leave the gates open for pathogens.

3.  While regular milk only contains 16% casein protein, raw milk contains 80% casein.  Casein allows for slow digestion of proteins that contribute to muscle growth.

Vitamin B12 is an essential vitamin found in raw milk.  Unless children consume a great deal of meat and eggs (or raw meat, which is not at all healthy), vitamin B12 can be missing from their diets.

4.  Research asserts that raw milk can prevent serious illnesses such as tuberculosis, asthma, flu, diphtheria, and related illnesses.  It can also lower cholesterol.  Pasteurized milk, on the other hand, has been attributed to the development of these diseases and can also promote dental decay.

In a clinical trial where approximately seventy children were given raw milk and pasteurized milk, one child who drank pasteurized milk developed TB.

5.  Raw milk has additional health benefits as well.  It can prevent osteoporosis, allergies, slow growth development in children, anemia, skin infections, and other illnesses.  Conversely, studies clearly indicate that pasteurized milk has typically been the source of illnesses such as tuberculosis, E. coli, and salmonella.

While these are just five reasons why raw milk is arguably better for you, consumers are slowly re-defining raw milk and its health benefits.  There are opponents who will never entertain the idea that raw milk is as beneficial as proponents claim, and this debate is sure to continue.

However, it should be noted that 1% of the population drinks raw milk and that in itself says something about where this argument may be headed.
